also is a little more than Just
BBB_BAD Color Changing Paint!!
Among other things... It's SLAMMED!!!!!
This is the ONLY casting I personally have seen of this CONCEPT
TRUCK from the Boys at Chevrolet!!
AND.....
It was CERTAINLY NOT an easy thing to get it to THIS point!! I started
with the MAISTO ~ "Poc-kits" 1/64 scale Metal Model Kit.
As you can see, the truck had a VERY TALL stance and a "friction"
motor in the base. This was the first thing to go!!! It was just NOT
RIGHT for the classic, but, modern body lines of this Concept Truck!!
After several searches in my "Scrap Yard" for a suitable donor, a
97 Corvette base was VERY CAREFULLY cut/sanded/modified to fit the
SSR body VERY NEAR PERFECTLY!! Small machine screws were used for
reassembly (as usual for my kustoms!) with the rear one needing a
completely new placement through the base in order to align with the
post in the body.
The addition of a set of 5 STAR/IROC wheels was also a bit difficult,
as MANY modifications were made to base and body in order to achieve
a pretty good rolling kustom!! Not to mention that they look KILLER!!!
A new "support" was fabricated and installed (inside, at the underside
of the bed cover) so that the rear section of the body would be level
and even with the new base.
Once all of the parts fit together and the wheels rolled correctly,
the original paint was removed, casting smoothed and slightly polished,
AND......
NOW FOR THE PAINT!!!!!!!
THESE PICS DO NOT DO ANY JUSTICE TO THE REAL THING!!!
BUT...I have tried to get some pics at different angles and light
sources to show what this paint does when you are looking at it in person,
but, it is very hard to illustrate RADICAL Color Changes of the flames
with any type of photos, however, if you look at all these pics and
compare them with each other you can get a good idea of how the flames
change color as you look at it from different angles and light sources!!
The paint is ALL AIRBRUSHED
(as with all my kustoms) PPG Harliquin (ChromaLusion, but, from PPG)
AUTOMOTIVE paint.
THIS PAINT IS WILD!! The base color is a fade of Pearl Blue and Pearl
Purple!! Then the CHROMALUSION Gold to Magenta REVERSED GHOST Flames
change from a golden color to blue to deep purple!!! YET ANOTHER coat
of Red to Blue ChromaLusion is done over the entire thing adding more
of a red hue and making for ONE KOOL Flame Effect nicely streaming down
the sides, over the hood, fenders, bed cover, and over the top!!! The
base was given a few coats of Lemon Twist Yellow and then ALSO COATED
with Gold to Magenta ChromaLusion and cleared!!
Details were added at the grill section, head lights, tail lights,
rear tailgate trim, exhaust tips, and front park lights!!!
The final touches included three coats of clear
for that AWESOME GLOSSY FINISH!!!
This car was EXTREMELY tricky and time consuming to do in BOTH the
making and painting of it, but, the end result is
VERY UNIQUE
and
FREAKIN'
KOOL!!!!
