This is a 1/24 scale casting.
These pics are pretty good, but, I can't stress this enough,
they ABSOLUTELY
do not do this paint justice!!
The
casting was stripped, sanded and polished slightly before any body
mods or paint was done.
The body mods on this beauty are not visible on the outside, but,
they were pretty darned extensive!!!! The HUGE Dub City wheels and
rubber tires required a LOT of modifications to the body and chassis
in order for them EVEN THINK about turning!!!!!!! LOL!!! I notched
the base at each wheel opening considerably to give the much wider
Dubs enough room to fit!! The front areas of the body's inner fenders
had to be ground away so much the two front casting posts had to
be shaved on one side!!!!! The front bumper was cut away from its
original moorings and also required a lot of grinding to gain tire
clearance!! So much so the a few areas of this plastic part were
thin enough to see the BACK side of the chrome plating!!!!! The
axles are held in place with Marine Epoxy and were leveled so that
they all touch the surface at the same time!!!! They were removed
and the hole was reamed a little so that they could turn freely!!
Basically, getting THESE wheels to fit at all was a lot more difficult
than I expected, but, the end result is well worth it!!! They look
great and roll pretty well too!! There is an occasional catch with
the tires when rolling, but, they DO ROLL and did I mention that
they LOOK GREAT!!!!!!!!!
The paint is ALL AIRBRUSHED (as with all my kustoms) PPG
and House Of Color AUTOMOTIVE paint.
PLUS!!! Alclad Chrome Lacquer!!!!
It started with a BLACK BERRY base color, then flames were added
with Alclad Chrome!!!! Then, the Candy FADE was done THREE COLORS!!!
Starting with Candy Red, to Candy Purple, to Candy Blue!!!!!!!!!
Once this coat was dry, the Alclad Flames were repeated THREE MORE
times and followed with additional Candy FADE after each new flame
pattern until I got the effect that you see!!!
There are literally HUNDREDS of individual flame licks on this beast!!
All of them hiding in the deep candy just waiting to "jump
out" at you when the light hits it!!!!!!!!!
Finally, Clear was shot on in three coats making the finish WAY
SMOOTH!!!! This is SO INCREDIBLY KOOL that words fail to describe
what your eyes actually see in person!!!
NO KIDDING...... The Flames are VERY DEEP, Ghosty, and "glowing"
CANDY and the Black Berry has just a hint of blue in some lights,
but otherwise, is very dark, almost black!!!!!!!
This Paint is WAY tricky and
time consuming to do, but, the end result is
TOO
FREAKIN'
AAAWESOME!!!!
I also masked off the headlights and tail lights, then shot them
with Alclad Chrome and added some Candy Red on the tail lights!!!!!
