This is a 1/64 scale casting.
These pics are pretty good, but, I can't stress this enough,
they ABSOLUTELY
do not do this paint justice!!
The
castings were stripped, sanded and polished slightly before any
body mods or paint was done.
First, I want to give credit to the person who originally came up
with this particular combination!! "EdselHead" over on
the
www.hotwheelscollectors.com Customs Forum
is the man who inspired this (and a few others!!) Kreation!!
Thanks Edsel!!!
Mine is somewhat different of course. Mainly in that it is BLOWN!!
Ok.....as far as body mods go, I started wit ha VW Bug and a Ballistic.
The fenders and all body parts below the door handles were cut away
from the bug casting, then the underside of the hood area was carefully
shaved, which effectively thinned the metal enough to allow this
hood to be "flattened" without warping it. The top was
chopped by removing the center door post pillars and cutting a "slit"
across and through the rear part of the roof, then the front pillars
had almost 1/8" removed and were slightly bent forward and
finally the roof was bent down to its new position!! Superglue was
utilized for the initial bond of pillars to body. The roof was clamped
down while this bond set and also during this time, Marine Epoxy
was placed into the slit that was cut in the roof so that the roof
would be more secure when the clamp was released. After a few hours
of cure time, the clamp was removed and JB Weld was used to smooth
up and strengthen the roof pillars to body bond!!
Then it was solidly mated with the slightly modified Ballistic body
with a lot of strategically placed Marine Epoxy!!! Once this cured,
the epoxy was roughed into shape and the hole for the Fiat 500 Blower
was cut in!! Now the EXTENSIVE sanding, filing, priming, REPEAT,
stage was started!! This stage took quite some time, but, when done,
the body lines were completely smooth once again!!! The NEW door
lines were then VERY Carefully cut in with an exacto razor saw!!
Next the interior from a 56 Ford Panel truck was heavily modified
along with the original Ballistic interior piece of which the Ballistic
seats and dash were completely removed to make room for the new,
taller seats and dash so that the now taller roof line of the Ballistic
Bug would be better fit. Once all parts finally fit correctly, it
was test assembled and readied for paint.
The wheels are 5 spoke DEEP DISH MAGS casted in silver which in
my opinion makes them look A LOT like the real "Magnesium"
wheels that were the start of customized wheels in the late 50s!!
The chrome rings of each wheel was painted with a couple coats of
Candy Red to finish off this look!!!!
I also fitted the rear with NEW exhausts!! Made from Stainless Steel
tubing, one end of each was notched and the end meticulously bent
and shaped until it appeared to actually be turned downward and
when this part is viewed through the windows, it gives it a very
realistic look of the pipes rising from a bend underneath!!! The
outer ends of each pipe was flared using a countersink bit attached
to my drill!!! The pipes a glued in place after final assembly.

The paint is ALL AIRBRUSHED (as with all my kustoms) PPG
and House Of Color AUTOMOTIVE paint.
PLUS!!! Alclad Chrome Lacquer!!!!
It started with a JET BLACK Urethane base color, then it was sprayed
with Alclad Chrome witch makes for a NEAR "SpectraFlame"
base color!!!! Candy CHERRY RED was done then applied in 8 COATS
for a REALLY DEEP, "glowing" Red Color!!! This was allowed
to cure and then the GHOSTY, Color Changin' ChromaLusion Gold to
Magenta Flames were applied!!!!!
Finally, Clear was shot on in three coats making the finish WAY
SMOOTH!!!! This is SO INCREDIBLY KOOL that words fail to describe
what your eyes actually see in person!!!
NO KIDDING...... The Flames are VERY Ghosty and they will shift
colors enough to almost "melt" into the "glowing"
CANDY Cherry Red!!!!!!!

This Kreation was EXTREMELY
tricky and time consuming to do, but, the end result is
TOO
FREAKIN'
AAAWESOME!!!!
