This is a 1/64 scale casting.
These pics are pretty good, but, I can't stress this enough,
they ABSOLUTELY
do not do this paint justice!!
The
casting was stripped, sanded and polished slightly before any body
mods or paint was done.
The top was chopped by removing the center door post pillars and
cutting a "slit" across and through the rear part of the
roof so the roof would bend not only in the right place, but, also
without distorting it!!! Then the front pillars had OVER 1/8"
removed and were slightly bent forward and finally the roof was
bent down to its new position!! Superglue was utilized for the initial
bond of pillars to body. The roof was clamped down while this bond
set and also during this time, Marine Epoxy was placed into the
slit that was cut in the roof so that the roof would be more secure
when the clamp was released. After a few hours of cure time, the
clamp was removed and JB Weld was used to smooth up and strengthen
the roof pillars to body bond!!
Following this was some pretty extensive sanding, filing, priming,
REPEAT, until the new roof line and front pillars were smooth!!!!
Next the interior and windshield pieces required some modifications
in order to fit the now much shorter roof line!! The glass part
was VERY Carefully trimmed front and rear to allow for the space
difference and then it was slowly "bent" forward at the
front, thus, matching the new angle of the pillars pretty closely!!
The interior and parts of the metal base were shaved in order to
give the needed space allowances and not put pressure on the roof
when all was assembled which "could" have caused the pillar/body
bond to stress and break!! Once all parts finally fit correctly,
it was test assembled and readied for paint.
The wheels are Preferred Series Chrome DEEP DISH MAGS with rubber
tires!!! They were fitted to the base and epoxied in place, then
leveled as this cured so that ALL wheels will make contact with
the surface at the same time!!! They look KILLER on this Bug and
roll even better!!!

The paint is ALL AIRBRUSHED (as with all my kustoms) PPG
and House Of Color AUTOMOTIVE paint.
PLUS!!! Alclad Chrome Lacquer!!!!
It started with a JET BLACK Urethane base color, then it was sprayed
with Alclad Chrome witch makes for a NEAR "SpectraFlame"
base color!!!! Candy Gradeur BLUE was then applied in 8 COATS for
a REALLY DEEP, RICH Color!!! This was allowed to cure and then the
GHOSTY, Color Changin' ChromaLusion Red to Blue Flames were applied!!!!!
Finally, Clear was shot on in three coats making the finish WAY
SMOOTH!!!! This is SO INCREDIBLY KOOL that words fail to describe
what your eyes actually see in person!!!
NO KIDDING...... The Flames are Pretty Ghosty and they will shift
colors from gold, to red, to purple, to blue and at some angles
aappear to "melt" into the CANDY BLUE!!!!!!!

I also detailed the tail lights, rear deack handle, door handles,
and ALL window trim with Alclad Chrome Lacquer!!!!! The tail lights
also recieved just a touch of Candy Red!!!!
